Sampler Pack of Printmaking Techniques - class is full!

Wednesdays 6:30-9:30pm

October 11 – November 15 (6 weeks)

$200.00 (+ MPA membership*) 

A little bit of this and a little bit of that (this being intaglio and that being relief printing) – this is the perfect course for people who want to try printmaking and don’t know where to start!  Drypoint, block printing and some monoprint techniques will be explored in this fun, hands-on course.  Great for first time printers or those who want a refresher!

An active member of Martha Street Studio for many years- as instructor, renter and Board member - Ann's recent retirement from her position as an (award-winning) art teacher for the Winnipeg School Division, is allowing her more time to devote to her personal art practice.


Introductory Screen Printing - class is full

Tuesdays, 6-9pm

September 5 – October 24 (8 weeks)

$300 (+ MPA membership*)

For those who have never printed before or need a refresher on the basics, this class explores skills and techniques involved in this versatile process, which is capable of creating multi-coloured images on a variety of surfaces. Students will learn new skills and methods to achieve their creative goals.

Lisa has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Manitoba. She is an illustrator, printmaker, educator and comic lover.


Advanced Screen Printing Techniques - class is full!

Thursdays, 6-9pm

September 14 – October 19 (6 weeks)

$250 (+ MPA membership*)

In this class, participants will build on basic screenprinting skills. Each class will have a demonstration of a different technique that participants can incorporate into their own individual projects.

Suzie Smith is an interdisciplinary artist who often uses screenprinting and other printmaking techniques. She enjoys experimenting with print process to push the boundaries on what can be accomplished.


Introduction to Etching: Aluminum Plates - class is full!

Saturdays, 12-4pm

September 16 – October 28 (6 weeks, no class Oct 7)

$250 (+ MPA membership*)

Etching can result in prints of wonderful subtlety and richness. This course introduces the basic principles of etching using aluminum plates. You will learn how to prepare your plate for etching, how to etch crisp lines, how to produce areas of tone and how to introduce colour to your print. No prior etching experience required.

Nora Kobrinsky earned her BFA from the University of Manitoba in 2008. She was selected for MAWA’s Foundation Mentorship Program (2008-2009) and extended her printmaking training at the University of Manitoba (2009-2010). She has taken several classes at Martha Street Studios over the years before becoming an instructor. She is a painter and printmaker in lithography, etching and monoprinting.


Introduction to Stone Lithography - class is full!

Mondays, 6-9pm

November 6 – December 11 (6 weeks)

$300 (+ MPA membership*)

Stone lithography is seen by some to be a daunting process but I learned how to do it, so you can too! Just remember, grease and water do not mix. Participants in this introductory course will learn the basic principles of stone lithography from preparing a stone for printing, creating their image with grease pencils, autographic ink and touche washes, "etching" the image and printing a small edition. No printmaking experience is required.

Peter Graham is a studio technician at MSS and has taught our etching classes for several years. Currently he is mildly obsessed with making screen prints of his model trains. His wife hopes this will end soon.





Screenprinting Basics at Martha Street Workshop  - class is full!

Saturday September 30, 10-2pm & Sunday October 1, 11-5pm

This two–day workshop will focus on the basics of screenprinting including an orientation to the specific equipment and spaces used at Martha Street.  Great for the beginner or to refresh your skills.

Alison James is a multidisciplinary artist and art educator based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She holds a BFA Honours degree from the University of Manitoba, and has exhibited her work nationally and internationally in galleries and film festivals. 


Pocket Books Workshop - class is full!

Saturday October 14, 1-5pm & Sunday October 15, 12-5pm

$175.00 (+ MPA membership*)

In this two day workshop, students will learn to work with letterpress printing and bookbinding in order to create small, pocket sized sketchbooks and notebooks using movable type, printers cuts, and lino-cut graphics. Previous letterpress experience is required.


Letterpress Holiday Card Workshop -  One Spot Left!!!!

In this two day workshop, students will learn the basics of creating folding greeting cards on our letterpress equipment using movable type, printers cuts, and lino-cut graphics. Previous letterpress experience is required.

Sean McLachlan is a Winnipeg based artist, and recent graduate of the BFA Honours program at the University of Manitoba studying printmaking and photography. Sean has worked at Martha Street Studio for 5 years and is exploring the boundary between traditional and digital printmaking technologies.
