Martha Street Studio hiring Summer Student Intern to begin May 22nd, 2018!


Job title: Summer Student Intern
Dates: May 22nd to July 28th, 2018 (10 weeks)

Martha Street Studio is offering a student the opportunity to broaden their knowledge of artist-run centres, printmaking and arts education, through the position of Summer Student Intern. The successful candidate will work both independently and with the support of staff, in the goal of organizing, advertising and implementing festivities and exhibitions related to Martha Street Studio's 30-year anniversary celebrations. These celebrations encompass several components and include a street festival and outdoor linocut workshop, a member exhibition, and summer printmaking workshops.


Who are we looking for?
The successful candidate will have a keen interest in the visual and or printmaking arts, arts education, artist-run centres, or the not-for-profit sector. Although academic or studio based studies in the visual arts may be given priority, students in education or arts education, design, social services, youth services will also be great candidates. The successful candidate will have a strong sense of community engagement and or history of volunteerism, be outgoing, independent and responsible. They will be knowledgeable about arts and culture and have a willingness to become engaged in community building activities through the arts. This job is made possible by Canada Summer Jobs through the Government of Canada and candidates must be under the age of 30 and returning to school in the fall of 2018.

What are the specific tasks and responsibilities?
The Summer Student Intern will work with artists, instructors, youth, and volunteers to help coordinate Martha Street Studio’s 30-year anniversary celebration events under the direction of the Community Programming Coordinator and the Executive Director.

  • Work with the Executive Director to organize logistics of event including city permits and realizing an event safety plan:
  • Liaise with inner-city organizations to invite participants:
  • Assist in the design, print and promotion of the anniversary event through posters, social media, and partners, etc:
  • Assist the Community Programming Coordinator in organizing volunteers:
  • Assist Studio Technicians in the preparation of materials and with installation and striking of the exhibition:
  • Assist instructors with workshop preparation and clean-up:
  • Assist with preparation for the street festival and support volunteers throughout:
  • Assist in the day-to-day maintenance of the studio.

Wage: $13.00 per hour / 26 hours per week (includes 5 hours on Saturday)
